Adequate Housing in The New Urban Agenda

"Adequate housing is not only a matter of a roof and 4 walls but more deeply, it is about the security of ownership; availability of services, materials, facilities, and infrastructure; affordability; habitability; accessibility; location; and cultural adequacy."

Based Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 11 which is Building inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and settlements - emphasizes the importance of housing for sustainable urban development and sets goals to ensure universal access “to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services. affordable, and upgrading slum settlements” (Target 11.1).

In The New Urban Agenda, the role of adequate housing is critical in economic development and poverty reduction and promoting equal access to adequate and affordable housing as an effective counterweight to shared prosperity and growth, to ending poverty in all its forms. its shape and dimensions. In addition, this TNUA also has the goal of improving slum and informal settlements, while preserving cultural heritage, which contains urban sprawl, strengthening urban resilience, and reducing disaster risk and vulnerability.

SDG 11 also mentions the importance of upgrading slums (slum areas) by the statement in 11.1, namely "By 2030, ensure access for all people to adequate, safe, and affordable housing and basic services, and reduce slum areas". it is also directly related to SDG 1 no poverty, SDG 5 Gender equality, SDG 8 decent work and economic growth, and SDG 16 peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Talking about adequate housing is also related to social inclusion and the development of the community. Adequate housing is not only a matter of a roof and 4 walls but more deeply, it is about the security of ownership; availability of services, materials, facilities, and infrastructure; affordability; habitability; accessibility; location; and cultural adequacy.
